THERE IS SOMETHING HAPPINING ABOVE US! – The annual Perseid meteor shower has just peaked, but it’s not too late to catch this spectacle of shooting stars across the summer night sky. The annual Perseid meteor shower is active until Aug. 24th. They are one of the best and brightest batches of shooting stars. The Perseid showers come around this time every year as the Earth drifts through a debris cloud left behind by a giant comet. Bits of dust, pebbles, and other cosmic debris slam into our atmosphere, burning up into brief, bright streaks with even the occasional full-blown fireball streaking across the night sky. The best strategy to get a good look is to head out as late in the evening as possible, but before moonrise. Now that you have all the details, venture out to your back yard, look up, and enjoy the splendor of our Earth’s skies.
