RAIL BIKES! (updated 8/12/21)

I wrote about Pennsylvania’s first rail bike excursion in March of this year. It is the exciting new addition to Boyertown’s Colebrookdale Railroad. At that time, the dates offered for the rail bikes were limited and sold out at a lightening pace. Since then, The rail bikes have been a tremendous success! Now the rail bikes have their own Facebook page & website, AND they won Philadelphia Magazine’s – Best of Philly 2021! Because of the extraordinary demand, the railroad expanded the amount of rail bike excursions throughout the weekends until October 1st. Be sure to get your bike now!

Here is my original article from March 2021…

The Colebrookdale Railroad brings Pennsylvania its FIRST pedal-powered rail bike adventure! You can now pedal your way through the wondrous Secret Valley where you will cross bridges, chase creeks, and be part of the nature that surrounds you. The open air, hands free ride offers you an up close and personal view of wildlife as you explore the same magical rock cuts that were hand-dug by Civil War veterans in the late 1860’s and learn about the magnetic rocks that spawned the first iron industry in the United States.

Rail bikes are person-powered vehicles with four steel wheels, disc brakes, and pedals for each seat that rides on the railroad tracks. Pedal-powered rail vehicles date back to the 1850’s, when maintenance workers used hand-cars and ‘rail bikes’ to travel along the tracks. The newly designed 2021 rail bikes offer you a unique take on riding the rails. The custom-built bikes will include an educational app and Bluetooth speakers to provide the narrated educational content. Although the rail bikes require pedaling, the magic of steel wheels on steel rails gives you a smooth ride that makes it easy for couples young and old, groups, and families of all ages to enjoy a leisurely roll along the Colebrookdale rails.

Grab your ticket and try this one-of-a-kind railroad experience for yourself.  You will only find it at the Colebrookdale Railroad in Boyertown, PA! Find more information about the railbike at: https://www.parailbiketours.com
