Hello May!

May gets its name from Maius, which is believed to be named after Maia, an earth goddess of growing plants in Roman mythology. Fitting, right? May has long been associated with growth, renewal, and the blooming beauty of nature.

Zodiac Signs:
Taurus (Bull): April 20 – May 20
Gemini (Twins): May 21 – June 20

Birthstone: Emerald – Symbolizes rebirth, love, and wisdom.

Flowers: Lily of the Valley and Hawthorn

Ah, May… can you feel the fresh energy? The scent of blossoms in the air, the warm kiss of sun on your skin, and the hum of lawnmowers and buzzing bees. May is that perfect blend of spring’s peak and summer’s preview. It’s a time for graduation caps flying in the air, backyard BBQs, and Mother’s Day brunches. By now, spring has definitely sprung, and we’re all feeling that urge to get outside and soak it all in.

Now that you’re in the May mood (hopefully), here are some notable days and events to look forward to this month…

May Day (May 1st) – An ancient celebration of spring, flowers, and fertility. Traditionally celebrated with maypoles, dances, and festivals of renewal.

Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) – A celebration of the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Today, it’s widely celebrated with Mexican food, music, and cultural festivities.

Mother’s Day (May 11th) – A day to honor mothers and maternal figures. Don’t forget the flowers and brunch!

National Nurses Week (May 6–12) – A week-long appreciation for the dedication and care of nurses. Show some love to those healthcare heroes!

Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6–10) – Let’s give a standing ovation to the educators shaping the future every single day.

Armed Forces Day (May 17th) – A U.S. holiday recognizing those currently serving in the military. Salute to all the active duty heroes out there.

Memorial Day (May 26th) – A federal holiday honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It’s also the unofficial start of summer—think cookouts, parades, and flags waving in the breeze.

Full Flower Moon (May 23rd) – May’s full moon, known for the abundance of blooming flowers this time of year.

Fun Facts!

May is National Bike Month in the U.S.! It was established in 1956 and encourages everyone to dust off their bikes and get pedaling. Whether it’s for health, the planet, or just some two-wheeled fun—May is a great time to ride!

May was once considered bad luck for marriages. An old superstition said, “Marry in May and you’ll rue the day.” Clearly, not many people believe that anymore—May is now one of the most popular wedding months!

May 4th is Star Wars Day! “May the Fourth be with you” has become a global celebration for Star Wars fans.

The Empire State Building in New York City opened in May. It officially opened on May 1, 1931, and remained the world’s tallest building for nearly 40 years.
