Look to the Skies!

If you love a good sky show, you’re in for a treat this Friday, February 28,. A rare seven-planet alignment will be visible in the evening sky, and it won’t happen again until 2040. That means this is your one big chance to catch Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune all lining up across the sky at the same time.

When & Where to Watch

  • Time: Just after sunset around 5:50 PM
  • Where: Anywhere with a clear view of the western horizon (think open fields, parks, or hilltops away from city lights).

What to Look For

Not all seven planets will be easy to spot, but here’s what to expect:

Easy to See with the Naked Eye:

  • Venus – The brightest one, shining low in the west.
  • Mars – Has a reddish tint, sitting higher up near Gemini.
  • Jupiter – Another bright one, hanging out in Taurus.
  • Mercury – A little tricky, since it’s close to the setting sun.

Need Binoculars or a Telescope:

  • Saturn – Very low in the sky and tough to spot.
  • Uranus – In Aries, faint but possible to see with binoculars.
  • Neptune – The hardest one to find, only visible with a telescope.

Tips for the Best Viewing Experience

  • Get outside right after sunset – Some planets will dip below the horizon quickly.
  • Find a dark spot – The less light pollution, the better!
  • Bring binoculars or a telescope – Especially if you want to see Uranus or Neptune.
  • Give your eyes time to adjust – Avoid looking at bright lights before heading out.
  • Use a stargazing app – Makes it way easier to locate planets.

This planetary alignment offers a rare chance to observe multiple planets, and it’s a great excuse to step outside to soak in the night sky. Maybe even snap some cool photos too. Whether you’re an astronomy buff or just love looking up, you want to miss this one!
