The Great Oley Fair!
Do you want to experience a true old-fashioned, down-home country fair that captures the heart and soul of small-town America? Then look no further than the Oley Valley Community Fair, a beloved tradition that has been bringing the community together for an impressive 77 years, and it’s still going strong! This three day event (Sept 19-21) celebrates the spirit of friendly competition and the deep-rooted agricultural heritage of the region. Each year, friends and neighbors gather to showcase the best of what local farms and homes have to offer, entering their prized products in a wide variety of categories. From homegrown fruits and vegetables to stunning flowers and massive pumpkins, the displays are a feast for the eyes and a testament to the skill and dedication of the participants.
You won’t want to miss the live farm animals either, a favorite for visitors of all ages. Wander through the barns and pens to see everything from cows and sheep to chickens and goats. And don’t forget to stop by the giant pumpkin display! Last year’s winning pumpkin tipped the scales at an astounding 1,300 pounds, just imagine what this year’s entries will bring!
Beyond the exhibits, one of the most unforgettable parts of the Oley Fair is the food. Known far and wide for its mouthwatering local favorites, this is a place where you can truly indulge in some of the best country cooking around. Craving something savory? The fair is famous for its crispy French fries and juicy hamburgers, made with local ingredients that you can taste in every bite. Got a sweet tooth? You’re in luck! Funnel cake is a must, fried to perfection and dusted with just the right amount of powdered sugar. But what really makes the food here special is that it’s not just your typical fair fare, much of it is prepared by members of 21 area churches and their congregations, bringing together generations of home-cooked tradition that fills the air with the irresistible aroma of good, old-fashioned Dutch cooking.
As if that weren’t enough, the Oley Fair offers a full lineup of live music and entertainment throughout its three-day run. Whether you’re into toe-tapping country tunes or lively local bands, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. And let’s not forget about the carnival! The kids will light up at the sight of the twinkling lights and thrilling sounds of the rides, and adults might find themselves swept up in the nostalgic joy of it all, too.
