Welcome! This is your one stop guide to local events and more...

As a Boyertown graduate, a real estate agent at Glocker Realty, and also a proud member of Building a Better Boyertown & BMBA, I have had the joy of watching our little town grow. I enjoy having any part in helping our community to move forward. I hope this weekly blog will help shine a light on all the great things happening in and around Boyertown, PA.

March is derived from the Latin word Martius (named after Mars, the Roman god of war). Martius was the name of the first month in the original Roman calendar.

Zodiac Signs: Pisces (fish): February 20–March 20 & Aries (Ram): March 21–April 19

Birthstones: Aquamarine and Bloodstone.

Flowers: Daffodil and Jonquil

Can you feel it? Do you have spring fever? As we welcome in March, we also welcome many spring thoughts this year. We first get a punch of extra daylight as we spring our clocks forward. After that you can dream of finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, but first you must catch the leprechaun! Then we celebrate the season of growth and rebirth with the official beginning of spring. Finally, the Easter bunny comes hopping down the bunny trail. If these images don’t give you a touch of spring fever, then I don’t know what will.

Now that I got you excited for March (maybe), here are some notable days that you will find this month…

  • International Women’s Day (March 8th) – A day that not only celebrates the achievements of women and the progress made toward women’s rights but also brings attention to ongoing struggles for equality around the world.
  • Daylight Saving Time Begins (March 10th) – Turn you clocks forward for an extra hour of daylight.
  • Ramadan (March 10th) – Begins at sundown. In Islam, Ramadan is considered a holy month when a month-long, sunrise-to-sunset fast is observed.
  • St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th) – Irish holiday. See my previous post to learn all about St Patrick’s Day
  • First Day of Spring! (March 19th) – Also called the vernal or spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere—marking the beginning of spring. In the Southern Hemisphere, this date marks the autumnal equinox and the beginning of fall. On this day, the Sun stands directly over Earth’s equator.
  • Palm Sunday (March 24th) – The Sunday before Easter and the last Sunday of Lent.
  • Worm Moon (March 25th) – Full moon of march
  • Good Friday (March 29th) – The Friday before Easter Sunday, on which the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ is commemorated in the Christian Church. It is traditionally a day of fasting and penance.
  • Easter Sunday (March 31) – The celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his Crucifixion. Also associated with spring, Easter Bunny, and egg hunts.

Fun Fact!

Statistically, March is the most unproductive month of the year in the U.S. This is the result of “March Madness” which is the season of NBA. Some companies lose up to $1.9 billion in wages paid to workers who were not productive and instead spent company time on betting on NBA games.
