Home Trends for 2024

It’s a new year with a whole new list of predictions for our year ahead. As a real estate professional, I find myself most interested in the home trend predictions for 2024. From interior design to fun new gadgets, and of course, real estate, I love reading what other professionals have in their sights for the new year. So, I have gathered the items that I felt were true, interesting, or intriguing, and put together a list of this year’s home trends. This might give you an idea for an upcoming renovation or a way to freshen up your home for the new year. Let’s see what home trends might be headed our way in 2024…

Home Interior Trends for 2024

Browns & Natural Colors – Browns will be used in all types of forms this year, such as walls, furniture, and accents. You will also see other natural colors like shades of deep seafoam, teals, navy blues, and other hues in the blue-green family ranging from medium to dark.

Curves – Curvy lines, whether used in sectional sofas, dining tables, or coffee tables, promote a soft, calm energy that makes for a welcoming space. Softer lines and organic shapes within the architecture are buzzing too.

Nature’s Influence – Nature will be embraced in design in 2024. Mimicking an exterior palette on the interior of a space is a timeless way to make a room feel at home in its surrounding environment. It’s not just about bringing the outdoors in; it’s making a part of the design.

Metals – It’s back to the essential elements with chrome, steel, and aluminum, with chrome taking the forefront. Chrome finishes with other metals creates a balanced and visually interesting design, and the contrast can enhance the overall appeal of the space. Brass accents will also continue to trend in popularity.

* The hot phrase for interior design is “Dopamine Décor” – A spaces that trigger happiness and delight. Bold, vibrant colors, whimsical patterns, and playful elements take the spotlight. This trend is immensely appealing because it taps into the human desire for joy and positivity, making every day feel like a celebration.

Home Tech Trends in 2024

AI Enhanced Smart Home – Artificial intelligence is poised to become an integral component of our smart homes. Next-gen products will leverage AI to adapt to your habits, optimizing your living spaces based on your lifestyle and daily routines. Voice assistants are set to evolve through machine learning, expanding their capabilities and offering assistance similar to ChatGPT.

Sustainability – Adopting an eco-friendly lifestyle is top-of mind for many homeowners, and the 2024 tech trends can make it easier. In 2024, sustainable homes will go beyond minor lifestyle adjustments and create new opportunities for people to live a more environmentally conscious life with a reduced carbon footprint.

Air Purifier – Air purification is one area where smart tech can help improve your health at home. The latest connected air purifiers detect levels of particulate matter in the air and adjust the power automatically. Allergy sufferers rejoice! There is also an air-purifying robot, capable of moving around to refresh the air in different rooms.

Outdoor Living Trends of 2024

Wellness Retreat – As holistic health continues trending upward, homeowners are starting to integrate wellness & Zen areas into their outdoor layouts. These settings have many forms: a private space for yoga, a hidden reading nook, or a lush meditation garden.

Mood Lighting – Lighting plays a significant role in setting the ambiance of your outdoor space. In 2024, we expect to see a surge in the use of solar-powered LED lights, string lights, and energy-efficient fixtures to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Fireplaces, Pits & Tables – The patio firepit is a must have for the outdoor space—no matter the season. There are more options than ever for how to execute the fireplace outdoors. The round firepit is the most popular but in 2024, you’ll see more grand fireplaces complete with hearth and surround. Fire tables are the easiest way to bring a fire element to your outdoor setting. These gas fireplaces make an ideal space for gathering with ambiance and a touch of warmth on a chilly evening.

Housing Market Prediction for 2024

Predicting the housing market is like predicting the weather. There are many unpredictable factors to consider, so using my knowledge of the present market condition and trends, I make my best guess of which direction those factors will take us over the next year. Here is what I am seeing trending for this year…

Inventory will increase slightly.
Home values will stay steady with a normal upward trend.
With Federal Reserve interest cuts expected, we should see mortgage rates slowly decrease this year.
I believe the overall market will stay steady, but the market will still favor the sellers.

That is my prediction of the housing market for 2024. Now remember, I don’t have a crystal ball (I wish I did), so unpredictable factors could send things into a different direction, but if things stay on course, this is what I expect for this year.
