Shop Small & Local for the Holidays!

Find an original, unique, and heartfelt gift at your locally owned retail shops. Not only will you have a more enjoyable shopping experience, but you will be supporting your community too.

Christmas is coming quickly, and the rush is on to find the right gift for your family, friends, and loved ones. Now, finding the right present can surely be a tough task. You can take the easy route by just buying gift cards for everyone, or maybe the jelly of the month club, but isn’t it best when you find that perfect item that you know he or she will love? Though gift cards are useful and certainly not a bad gift, I think an actual item seems to mean a little more.

So, how do you find the perfect gift, you ask? I don’t have a simple answer for that, but in my experience, unique gifts seem to get the best response. Those type of gifts are not usually found in a Target or Walmart or Home Depot. The “mom & pop” stores are the first place I would look. Your local towns and communities have shops that offer hand crafted, personalized, and one-of-a-kind items. If you just take the time to stop in at your local shops, you are bound to find something special that you wouldn’t find in a big box store or the internet. Not only will you be happy that you got some, or maybe all, of your shopping done, you can be happy that you supported a business in your community too. These are the businesses that live in and support your community. So, your support comes full circle. On top of all of that, you will probably have a more enjoyable shopping experience as well.

Even if you do decide to take the gift card route, you can still support local by selecting a unique restaurant or shop that you know your loved one will enjoy. This holiday season, try stepping away from the big box stores and try stepping into your local small businesses. You might just find the usual hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping becomes, dare I say, a fun experience… and please remember to #shoplocal and #shopsmall.
