Healthy Kids Running Series of Boyertown

Do you have a child or children that enjoy being active outside? If so, they should try the Healthy Kids Running Series of Boyertown. It is a simple five week program that takes place on Sunday afternoons. It encourages kids to try their best and push themselves in friendly competition. It is a great way for kids to enjoy healthy outdoor activities and have lots of fun too!

A little more about the program…

The Healthy Kids Running Series is a five-week running program in the Spring and Fall for kids from 2 years old to 8th grade. Each race series takes place once a week and offers age-appropriate running events including the 50-yard dash, the 75-yard dash, the 1/4 mile, the 1/2 mile, and the one-mile run. Kids compete each week of the series for a chance to earn points and at the end of the series, the top boy and girl with the most points in their respective age divisions receive a trophy. Every child receives a medal in the final race.

The program details…

Ages: 2yrs – 8th Grade (Race Distances based on age/grade)
Dates: Sunday’s 9/10,9/17,9/24 and 10/8, 10/15
Time: 3:00pm – 5:30pm (Specific race times for each group)
Douglass Park in Gilbertsville (76 Jackson Rd)
$45 registration fee includes entry into all 5 races, a shirt, race bag, and a medal.
Single Race walk-up registration is $20 and includes a shirt (while supplies last).

A little information about the HKRS Coordinators…

Jeff and Jena Shontz brought the Healthy Kids Running Series to Boyertown seven years ago. At that time they were looking for a running program that was available to their young children, but could not find anything local. Then, after learning about a kids running program that they could bring to their community, they decided to go for it, and HKRS of Boyertown was born!

Now, this is not their full-time job. Jeff works full time at SEI Investments Company and Jena recently left SEI Investments to focus on their family and their new adventures. One year ago, they became proud owners of Bear’s Den Fitness in Boyertown. Jeff coaches the CrossFit adult classes, SWEAT classes, and the kids CrossFit classes. Jena runs all the behind the scenes operations. Jena is also in charge of the Healthy Kids Running Series. She takes care of all the Facebook post, securing sponsors, gathering donations, vendor events, and advertising. They have an eight year old son and eleven year old daughter. They are also host parents to an exchange student from Germany who is attending Boyertown high school this year.

As Community Coordinators for HKRS, they are highly passionate about bringing these fun events to the Boyertown area each spring and fall, and very much enjoy encouraging kids to live an active and healthy lifestyle. They love the sense of community the events bring and of course cheering on all the kids through the finish line!
