The Noodle: More Than Just a Pool Toy

Summer is here and the pools are open! The pool noodle is a necessity for every swimming adventure. Kids everywhere are using pool noodles to learn how to swim, play pretend swords, shoot water (and some saliva) at each other, and beat each other over their heads for fun. These are the joys of summer pool horse play. We all know that the pool noodle equals pool fun, but did you know that the pool noodle has many other uses? Below are some of the best alternative uses for the pool noodle. See if any of these hacks are helpful to you…

Pool Noodle Water Hose

If you need to fill up a bucket that won’t fit under the faucet in your sink, bust out a pool noodle. Set the bucket on the floor, slip the noodle over the faucet and run it down to the bucket.

Pool Noodle Wrist Rest

Prevent wrist fatigue during a long day in the home office by making this pool noodle wrist rest.

Stay-Put Drawer Organizer

Drawer organizers are handy, but they tend to move around every time you open or close a drawer. Keep the organizer in place with a pool noodle.

Floor Squeegee

Here’s a handy way for rounding up water on your garage or basement floor. Just place the noodle onto the tines of a rake. Then just push the water to the drain or out the door.

Floating Beverage Barge

This cheap, easy DIY pool accessory keeps your drinks cool in the pool and close at hand. Cut short lengths of pool noodles to fit a plastic bin. (A bin with a lip keeps the noodles in place.) Thread a bungee cord through the center of the noodles to keep them snug against the sides. For a handle, tie a length of rope or cord onto the bungee. Add a small circle of pool noodle as a float to make the handle easy to grab.

Luggage Rack Protector

If you need to put something like a ladder on your roof rack, but don’t want it sliding or scratching, use pool noodles as a buffer. Just slit the noodles down the side with a utility knife and tape them on. Don’t forget to strap it down before you go!

Trunk Bumpers

Keep a couple of sections of pipe insulation or pool noodles in your trunk to protect the paint and your oversized items.

Ladder Guards

When leaning your ladder against gutters or siding, slip a couple of noodles at the end of the ladder for a buffer and anti-slip.

Hanging Clothes

Are you tired of pulling your dress pants off the hanger only to find that they have deep creases in them? The easy solution is a pool noodle over the hanger. Now you will not be stuck frantically ironing at the last minute.

Tent Rope Trip Protectors

How many times have you tripped or kicked a tent rope and peg? A couple of pool noodles are a quick solution to this problem.

Yard Games

There are so many uses for pool noodles when it comes to backyard games. Here are just a few… pool noodle ring toss, obstacle course, sprinkler, pool noodle bowling, target game, and more. For more backyard game ideas, see my previous blog: Backyard Games
