LEGOs Are Coming to Boyertown!
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s…whatever you want it to be. From just some simple, multi sized, colorful blocks, you can create anything your mind can conjure up. This is the magic of LEGOs. Now that magic is coming to downtown Boyertown.
This Saturday, October 1st, Boyertown Brickworks (LEGO store) will be having its official grand opening. The store is located at 10 S Reading Avenue, in the heart of Boyertown. The ribbon cutting ceremony begins at 9:45am, where kids from one to ninety-two are invited to excite their creative imagination.
This week I had a chance to interview the owner of Boyertown Brickworks, Joe Nicely. (You can watch that interview below on “The Cast at Glocker”.) I asked him how the idea of a LEGO store came about. He explained to me how his childhood love of LEGOs grew into a fun obsession over the years. Over time his LEGO collection outgrew his home and then a couple of storage units. At that point he started thinking about moving his collection to a larger facility and maybe even opening a store. Though he was already selling his LEGOs through web-based platforms, he thought having a physical store would be a great way to get his family involved, and a way to share his passion with the public. An opportunity to open a storefront presented itself just eight weeks ago. Now, with a lot of hard work and help from his parents, son, family, and friends, the idea of owning his own LEGO store has come to fruition.
I was lucky enough to get a first glimpse of the new store, and I have to say, I think people are going to say wow! It’s bright and colorful and there are soooo many LEGOs. You will find everything from fully built sets, to a huge bin of separate bricks, to shelves and shelves of mini figures. Although there are tons of LEGOs in the store, 85% of Joe’s collection is still off-site (which is mind-blowing). So, when you visit the store, if they don’t have what you are looking for, just ask, there’s a good possibility Joe has it or can get it.
In the coming weeks, Joe is hoping to start offering special programs and activities at the store. He would like to have some build events, building classes, b-day parties, and more. He is looking forward to hearing from the public about what events they would like to see offered. You can always send your suggestions through the Boyertown Brickworks Facebook page.
With the Grand opening just days away, Joe is excited for this new adventure in his life. He is looking forward to the experiences this family collaboration will bring him. He has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of interest and support from the community as well as the support from the other businesses in town.
