Boyertown’s 15th Annual Oktoberfest!

‘Tis the season to be merry! That is why Building a Better Boyertown is bringing us it’s 15^th Annual Oktoberfest celebration right here in Boyertown. What could be merrier than that? This Friday & Saturday, October 23^rd & 24^th, you can sing, dance, eat, and cheers some beers! This is a community gathering for kids and adults alike. Although the original Oktoberfest takes place in Munich, Germany, this weekend you will have your own piece of Germany right here in PA Dutch country.

There are a ton of fun festivities planned for Boyertown’s Oktoberfest. You will find non-stop attractions, like, axe throwing, stein relays, and stein holding competitions, German dancers, and live music. You will also find an array of food vendors and merchants throughout the grounds. Yes, yes, of course there will be plenty of beer too. An array of local and international beers will be on tap throughout the event. The kids will also have a slew of activities to keep them having fun, such as, games, mining for gems, face painting, and jumping in the bounce house. There is a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy at Oktoberfest!

No German heritage? No problem. Everyone is German at Oktoberfest! So, strap your lederhosen and dirndls, and make your way to Boyertown’s town center parking lot for the party of the year. You will have a “sehr gut” time! “Zicke, Zacke, Zicke, Zacke, Hoi, Hoi, Hoi!”

Did you know? Here are some interesting facts about Germany’s Oktoberfest…

• Oktoberfest was originally a celebration for the wedding of Princess Teresa of Bavaria and the Crown Prince Ludwig the 1st. (1810)
• Although it is called Oktoberfest, it actually begins in mid September and ends on the first Sunday in October. ( It usually runs for 16-18 days.)
• Albert Einstein worked at Oktoberfest, putting up beer tents, when he was young.
• About 6 million people attend Oktoberfest each year.
• Approximately 7,500,000 liters of beer are served at Oktoberfest.
• Oktoberfest’s lost and found has claimed such oddities as a Viking helmet, false teeth, and an electric wheelchair. (At the previous Oktoberfest, the lost and found ended up with 780 ID cards, 690 items of clothing, 660 purses, 465 bank cards, and 420 mobile phones.)
