Life Hacks that are Actually Useful

Who wouldn’t want to make their daily life a little easier? I know I sure would. There are always quicker, smarter, and – plain old – better ways to do things, and I for one would love to know what they are. So that brought me to searching the internet for the best “life hacks” that would be the most useful in our daily lives. Here are my picks…

**After you look over these items, please leave a comment and let me know which hack you liked the best, or was most interesting, or you have done, and it worked. I would love to hear your feedback.**

  • Clean and De-Fog Eyeglasses – If your glasses could use a deep cleaning, simply put a drop of dish soap on the outside and inside of each lens and gently wash it with your fingers. When you’re done, dry the glasses with a soft cloth. Your glasses will be smudge and fog-free!
  • Keep Fitted Sheets on Your Bed – What is more annoying than having to constantly fix the corners of your bed sheets that have popped off overnight? Fortunately, there is a very ingenious trick to remedy this situation. Just use a pair of suspenders to hold your fitted sheet in place! Simply place the suspenders under your mattress and attach the four corners of your fitted sheet to the four straps, and you’re done!
  • Make Decisions Easier – If you have trouble making a decision, try flipping a coin. While you’re waiting to get the result, your mind automatically starts to wish for what it wants. Then the choice is easy, no matter what the outcome of the coin flip was.
  • Soak Dirty Pots and Pans with a Dryer Sheet – It’s challenging to clean dirty pots and pans when they have burnt or baked-on food in them. It seems like no amount of soapy water can break through the grim, but there is a fix. By soaking your dirty dishes with dryer sheets, you will easily get the pan clean! Just pour warm water into the bottom of the dish, place a dryer sheet on top of the water, and allow it to soak for 15 minutes. The longer the better, so you can even leave it soaking overnight. Finally. clean the dish with a wet sponge and rinse. Voila!
  • Fix Your Cracked Phone Screen – With how expensive phones are nowadays, cracking the screen is often a real disaster. But instead of shelling out hundreds of dollars to fix your cracked phone, cure the problem with a little WD-40. Spray a WD-40 onto the surface and wipe it off with a clean, dry cloth. While the WD-40 won’t fix the crack, it will improve the appearance of the screen, allowing you to at least see your phone clearly until you can afford to get it fully fixed.
  • Unclog Your Toilet – Clogged toilets are a pretty crappy situation! Rather than going at your porcelain throne with a plunger, simply pour half a cup of dish soap into the toilet. Allow the dish soap to sit in the toilet for roughly 15-20 minutes. Then use a hot bucket of water to flush the refuse down the drain. Thanks to the dish soap, your pipes should be free from all the yucky debris that first caused the clog.
  • Reduce Joints Pain – Joint pain can be unpleasant and even painful. There are many ways to relieve the pain, with medication, and such. But did you know that aluminum foil can help? Just wrap your aching body part in aluminum foil to help relieve the pain. This technique is believed to have been used for a hundred years. Apparently, human organisms contain special stem cells that constantly interact with the Earth’s energy field. Aluminum foil helps to reflect this energy field, and thus, to restore the possible disrupted interaction that could occur in the stem cells and cause the pain.
  • Remove Scratches on Stainless Appliances – It’s inevitable, at some point, some scratches will appear on your stainless steel appliances. When this happens, there is a way to make those scratches disappear. It’s as simple as grabbing a toothbrush and a toothpaste from your bathroom. Apply a small amount of whitening toothpaste on a toothbrush, then rub gently in circular motion on the scratches to be removed. Then, clean the whole with a damp soft towel, and you’re done! **Also, If you want to restore the shine of your stainless steel appliance, simply sprinkle a little bit of flour on a clean, dry cloth, and gently buff it until it shines again!
  • Catch Ticks by Wrapping Your Ankles – Many people are afraid of ticks, especially since Lyme disease is spreading more and more each year. It is probably one of the biggest deterrents for wanting to walk in the woods or high grass. Fortunately, there is a very simple—and, more importantly, very effective—way to catch them before they have a chance to bite in. Next time you want to go in a possible tick area, make sure you wear closed shoes, socks and long pants, then wrap your ankles with tape, with the sticky side out. This will catch the little buggers before they get a chance to climb!
  • Use a Hairdryer Remove Crayon Marks – If your kids like to use your white walls as their personal crayon canvas, all hope is not lost. Simply heat the “artwork” on the wall with a hairdryer for a few seconds. This softens the crayon’s wax and makes it easy to wipe away with a soft cloth.
  • Clean Your Oven with Shaving Cream – Few places are dirtier than the inside of an oven. The greases and baked on foods can be extremely difficult to remove. But there is one product that you never thought would help you in such cases: your shaving cream! Apply a generous amount of shaving cream to the stain, then rub it with the scouring pad. Then remove the cream with a paper towel, and you’re done! **Also, you can use shaving cream to keep your mirror from fogging over. Apply a thin layer of shaving cream on your mirror, remove the cream, and buff your mirror until it is clean and pristine.
  • Use a Shower Cap as a Portable Dog Bowl – Dog owners know that when you take your dog on a walk or to the park, it’s inevitable that they’re going to become thirsty quickly. Instead of lugging a bowl around with you, all you need is a shower cap! You can tie it around your leash for easy access, and when your dog gets thirsty, just fill it up with water. This is an inexpensive and easy way to give your dog water on the go.
  • Eliminate Bad Odor from Your Shoes – It can be very embarrassing to have stinky shoes, especially when you have to take them off somewhere. Thankfully, there is a way to take away the stinkies. First, wait for your shoes to dry completely after wearing them. Then, spray rubbing alcohol on the inside and let them dry overnight. When you wake up, the bad smell will be gone!
  • Remove Blood Stains – The easiest way to remove blood stains is to use a bar of soap and handwash it. Always use cold water, not hot. Hot water will set the stain.
